Personal Description |
My main work experience is with Oxfam Novib with many years of expertise and experience on Gender Mainstreaming and in particular Gender Action Learning system (GALS), a participatory community-led gender approach. While based in The Hague, I have travelled extensively to Afrika and Asia to introduce, implement and adapt GALS in many countries, working directly with staff of Oxfam, partner organisations and community members. Since 2016 I am one of the Gender Justice and Social Inclusion Advisors and also work on
co-define with the different country teams what feminist principles mean in practice to promote gender justice, social inclusion and non-discrimination in projects, teams and partnerships.
The first time I learned about GALS was in Uganda in 2011 when I visited and worked with Bukonzo Joint Cooperative Union. We worked together on Gender and Value Chain Development – GENVAD: Community-led value chain development for gender justice and pro poor wealth creation GENVAD, from 2011-2015 the first large grant from IFAD and co-financing from Oxfam Novib. After this grant, two more grants followed and many other projects and programs where we integrated GALS as the main participatory community-led change methodology including Marriage no child’s play as part of the More than brides’ alliance to prevent child marriage.
