GALS expertise is advanced and the total number of Champions are 47(M17&F30) the total number of member 476(301F&175M)" to "Poro poro is a registered co-operative society with commissioner of cooperative Ministry of trade and Commerce in Uganda and their Empowerment learning Centre (ELC) is registered with the sub-county local Government to operate as an ELC which is a department within the cooperative Society. The ELC is located in Kemeru village, Alinga parish, Kuru sub county Yumbe District, West Nile, Northern Uganda 1km from Kuru Trading centre. Contacts (+256776070955 Ajuga Ahmad or Nyakuru samisa +256786139273) PURPOSE • To empower Rural communities in taking lead to address Gender injustice at house hold level and community at large using the GALS methodology • To provide training, outreaches and learning for the rural poor from hundreds to thousands and to millions • Training farmers on agricultural best practices, building and marketing produce of farmers • Sensitize people of community on cross cutting issues like climate change, HIV/AIDS, GBV and Conflict resolution and management • Advocate for the rights of vulnerable people e.g. youth, women and PWDs Sensitization of sanitation and household management Service at the ELC • Hosting local, National and international learners on GALS Methodology at the ELC, • Train households, community members, Community based Organizations (CBOs), NGOs, Small and medium entrepreneurs (SME), INGOs, IFAD partners, local Government staff and also provide out reaches on GALS through champions based on demand from the clients. • Peer to peer replication is happening from those who are trained by the champions as a result of changes that has been seen on them by community members and these are taking place with the households, extended families, friends and in-laws. • Certification process takes place during reviews meeting of the champions in which different generations of champions interact that is 1st to the 4th generations and presentations of tools takes place for quality assurance and the generations provide evidence of who train them and recommendation are made on who becomes champion but no certificate is provided but the champions know their social ranking. PROGRAMME AREAS • The empowerment learning centres carries on Village saving loan and credit association (VSLA) to support their empowerment learning centre and the members • Empowerment learning centre members and the champions participate in both individual and joint production of some crops like sesame, soybeans. sunflower and cassava Value chain and they also do bulking and joint marketing. • GALS training and out reaches to household and community members including hosting and learning events, promotion and popularizing GALs through JAZZ BAND and Drama. • Continuous Capacity building on group dynamics for the empowerment learning centre leadership.
